Who was Frank Cabot?
Frank Cabot (1925-2011) was an American horticulturist, garden designer, and philanthropist who made significant contributions to the field of gardening and garden preservation.
Cabot was born into a wealthy family in Boston and grew up in New York City. He attended Harvard University, where he studied history, and later worked in the family business, the investment bank Cabot, Cabot, and Forbes.
In the 1960s, Cabot developed a passion for gardening and began designing and planting his own garden at his home in Massachusetts. He soon became involved with the Garden Conservancy, an organization dedicated to preserving exceptional American gardens. In 1989, Cabot founded the Garden Conservancy’s Open Days Program, which allows the public to visit private gardens across the country.
Cabot also created his own renowned garden at his estate in Quebec, Canada, which he called Les Quatre Vents. The garden is known for its innovative design and extensive collection of rare and unusual plants. Cabot worked on the garden for over 40 years, and it is now open to the public.
