The beauty of curves.
Mae West once said “The loveliest distance between two points is a curve”. We couldn’t agree more!
Outdoor Craftsmen designs focus on the curves in every landscape – this is what makes each unique. It is how we uncover beauty and wonder in the natural environments of our clients.
Our world is made up of curves in all facets of our existence: math, science, architecture, physiology, fashion, art, roads, statistics, sports, space, and of course nature. The first shape humans recognize is a curve (that of their mother or father’s arms holding them). We learn about straight lines (usually in school) – but straight lines aren’t natural to us.
In nature, curves are everywhere, and in everything: in pathways, pools and water features, fire pits, containers, rocks and boulders. Curves are in the petals of a flower, in the clouds that bring rain, in leaves and tree branches, in the water rippling in a pond.
We believe curves account for the aesthetic effect we call beauty. There are other attributes such as symmetry, geometry, color, even the shock value of ugliness to make us ‘see’ the beauty around us, but these are different. These are seen by contrast in the environment by virtue of having been purposely introduced into the space.
The work we do intentionally harnesses the power and beauty of curves to enhance environments where undulation, flow, and movement are evident without being obvious to the eye. We use curves to pull you into thought; to introduce calm; to encourage play; to support conversation.
The very essence of Outdoor Craftsmen’s handiwork in nature begins with curves; those gradual, smooth, hopeful , meandering lines that lie at the core of life’s first principle: growth. Our designs are imaginative concepts that are always growing, yet never quite covering the same ground.
