Fire, water, stone, color, textures, and smell all stimulate the senses – this is my palette. I bring it all together using nature as inspiration. Environmental stewardship is key. We are water-wise, environmentally friendly, and definitely make the world a more beautiful place. – Scott Deemer, President + Founder of Outdoor Craftsmen
Outdoor Craftsmen’s signature design and building material is often stone, which forms the foundation for pools, patios, retaining walls, meandering paths, water features, fireplaces, and sculptures. We creatively integrate stones from very large (and very heavy to move and put into place!) to staggered tightly fit smaller stones for many of the major ‘bones’ of the landscape – those essential elements that form the overall structure of the space.
Our Case Studies page and Boulders and Walls portfolio page showcase some of our favorite projects using rock and stone, including award-winning Barrett Gorge Residence and the spectacular Ni-Water Composition project.
Our designers are specially trained in use of boulders and rock so that when they first view a property, they see the opportunities (and not what many others see as difficult and expensive challenges like steep grades and hillsides to contend with).
Ideas for use of rock are truly endless, from babbling brooks to hobbit houses! In every design we create, rock forms a timeless, natural look, and when done well, never looks contrived or out of place but instead beautifully in step with the great outdoors.
