We all know how good being in nature can make us feel. We have known it for millennia. The sounds… the scent of the trees, the sunlight playing through the leaves, the fresh, clean air – these things give us a sense of comfort.
They ease our stress and worry, help us to relax and to think more clearly.
Being in nature can restore our mood, give us back our energy and vitality, refresh and rejuvenate us.
— Qing Li from the book Forest Bathing
Nature is a respite; a force; and a deep, deep breath. It clears our minds and helps us to think. Li says “walking in nature can help us to change the way we think about things… and give our mental resources a break.”
It is known that when we connect with nature and give our minds a break, we are better able to reflect on our part in something larger than ourselves. We have so much to gain from being in nature – including the nature in our own backyard.
Any bit of nature is a room with a view. Create a haven on your property where you can easily experience nature and think your thoughts (or none at all). Get quiet and picture yourself there. What does it look like?
